Carbon Laser Peel
A carbon laser peel is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a layer of liquid carbon and a laser to exfoliate, cleanse, and rejuvenate the skin. It is often called a "lunchtime peel" because the full procedure typically takes about 30 minutes, and it requires minimal to no downtime.
How a Carbon Laser Peel Works
The treatment is a two-step process that combines the deep-cleansing properties of carbon with the collagen-stimulating and exfoliating power of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser.
-
Carbon Application: A thin layer of dark-colored liquid carbon is applied to the skin. The carbon is designed to penetrate and absorb oils, dirt, dead skin cells, and other impurities from deep within the pores.
-
Laser Treatment: A specialized laser (often a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser) is passed over the skin. The laser light is highly attracted to the dark carbon particles.
-
Exfoliation & Cleansing: When the laser energy is absorbed by the carbon, the particles are instantly heated and vaporized (ablated), which causes a gentle, rapid exfoliation. This vaporization process effectively removes the carbon, along with the absorbed dirt, dead skin cells, and impurities, from the skin's surface and pores.
-
Collagen Stimulation: The heat generated by the laser also penetrates the deeper layers of the skin (dermis), which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. This process helps to firm, tighten, and plump the skin over time.
-
Key Benefits and Applications
The carbon laser peel is used to address various common skin concerns:
-
Acne and Oil Control: The heat from the laser kills acne-causing bacteria and helps shrink the sebaceous (oil) glands, leading to reduced oil production and fewer breakouts.
-
Deep Cleansing and Exfoliation: It provides a thorough exfoliation, resulting in an immediate improvement in skin brightness and smoothness.
-
Pore Minimization: By deep-cleaning the pores and causing them to contract from the heat, the appearance of enlarged pores is reduced.
-
Texture and Tone: It improves overall skin tone and texture, and can help reduce mild fine lines, wrinkles, and certain types of pigmentation.
